Cloud Computing


 

Cloud computing is the next stage in the Internet's evolution, providing the means through which everything — from computing power to computing infrastructure, applications, business processes to personal collaboration — can be delivered to you as a service wherever and whenever you need. The “cloud” in cloud computing can be defined as the set of hardware, networks, storage, services, and interfaces that combine to deliver aspects of computing as a service. Cloud services include the delivery of software, infrastructure, and storage over the Internet (either as separate components or a complete platform) based on user demand.

Cloud computing models vary: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). Manage your cloud computing service level via the surrounding management layer.

 

n Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

The IaaS layer offers storage and compute resources that developers and IT organizations can use to deliver business solutions.

 

n Platform as a Service (PaaS)

The PaaS layer offers black-box services with which developers can build applications on  top of the compute  infrastructure. This might include developer tools that are offered as a service to build services, or data access and database services, or billing services.

 

n Software as a Service (SaaS)

In the SaaS layer, the service provider hosts the software so you don’t need to install it, manage it, or buy hardware for it. All you have to do is connect and use it. SaaS Examples include customer relationship management as a service.

     
 

Cloud computing has four essential characteristics: elasticity and the ability to scale up and down, self-service provisioning and automatic de-provisioning, application programming interfaces (APIs), billing and metering of service usage in a pay-as-you-go model. This flexibility is what is attracting individuals and businesses to move to the cloud.

KES offers the Cloud Strategy and Roadmap for Cloud Adoption, Technical Feasibility Assessment and Proof of Concepts (PoC) and finally Design and Deploy the Public, Private and Hybrid Cloud solutions to run important business applications like Enterprise Resource Management (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), email and other database programs. KES offers Eucalyptus Enterprise Edition Cloud Computing platform that enables Government and Enterprise customers to rapidly create on demand private, public or hybrid IaaS which is accessible via an API compatible with Amazon EC2 and Amazon S3 and supporting both Linux and Windows servers running all virtualization technologies (including KVM, Microsoft’s Hyper-V, Parallels, VMware & Citrix XEN etc).

     
 

KES has teamed up with leading High Performance Computing (HPC) provider SGI® to offer large scale on-demand HPC Cloud Computing service, Cyclone™ specifically dedicated to technical applications. Cyclone™ specifically addresses the growing science and engineering markets that rely on high-end computational hardware, software and networking equipment to achieve rapid results. It offers the HPC customers to access to some of the world's fastest supercomputing hardware architectures including Intel® Xeon® and Itanium® processors-based SGI® Altix® scale-up, Altix® ICE scale-out and Altix® XE hybrid clusters. The hybrid architecture offers either NVIDIA® Tesla GPUs or AMD FireStream™ GPU Compute Accelerators, both for floating point double precision; Tilera accelerators are supported for integer workloads. High performance SGI InfiniteStorage systems are available for scratch space and for long-term archival of customer data. At the system software level, Cyclone offers a flexible computing environment with the choice of SUSE® or Red Hat® Linux® operating systems, further performance-optimized through the addition of SGI® ProPack™. Altair PBS Professional® and SGI® ISLE™ Cluster Manager provide system scheduling and management.

   

SGI Cyclone is available in two service models: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). The IaaS model enables customers to install and run their own applications. With SaaS, SGI delivers its applications domain expertise by delivering leading-edge open source applications and best-of-breed commercial software platforms from top Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) on five major technical domains, including computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis, computational chemistry and materials, computational biology and ontologies.  Supported applications in these domains include OpenFOAM®, NUMECA, Acusolve, LS-Dyna®, Gaussian, Gamess, NAMD, Gromacs, LAMMPS, BLAST, FASTA; HMMER, ClustalW and OntoStudio etc.
